- Ingestion: harmful if swallowed.
- Inhalation: harmful if inhaled.
- Chronic exposure: may cause chronic respiratory problems like asthma, emphysema or bronchitis.
4. First aid measures
- If swallowed: call a poison control center or doctor immediately. Have the person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by the poison control center or doctor. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
- If on skin or clothing: take off contaminated clothing, rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15–20 minutes, and call a poison control center or doctor for advice.
- If inhaled: move the person to fresh air. If the person is not breathing, call an ambulance, then give artificial respiration. Call a poison control center or doctor.
- If in eyes: hold the eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15–20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing. Call a poison control center or doctor.
Note to physician: there is no specific antidote. Treatment should be based on observed signs and symptoms. In severe cases of overexposure by oral ingestion, lethargy, muscle tremors and, in extreme cases, possibly convulsions may occur. Have the product container or label with you when calling a poison control center or doctor.
5. Fire fighting measures
- Flammability: the concentrate is flammable (it contains petroleum solvents); the diluted spray mix is not. See Is Termisol flammable?
- Extinguishing media: water spray, CO2, foam, dry powder.
- Hazards: pesticide fires may emit hazardous gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen chloride, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and acid halides. Toxic vapours are released if the product is heated above its decomposition temperature.
- Procedure: isolate the fire area and evacuate downwind. Do not breathe gases, smoke or vapours. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing.
6. Accidental release measures
Take appropriate protective measures and wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Clear the area and dike the spillage. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Shut off the leak only if safe. Extinguish ignition sources nearby and downwind, ensure adequate ventilation, absorb with sand or other non-combustible material and place into containers for disposal. Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas.
7. Handling and storage
- Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage, disposal or cleaning of equipment.
- Open containers carefully and close tightly after partial use. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing and avoid breathing spray mist.
- Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse.
- Store unused product in the original container only, out of reach of children and animals, at normal ambient temperatures.
8. Exposure controls and personal protection (PPE)
| Hands | Chemical-resistant gloves |
|---|---|
| Skin | Long-sleeve shirt, long pants, shoes plus socks |
| Eyes | Protective eyewear or chemical safety glasses with side shields, or chemical goggles when working in non-ventilated spaces |
| Respirator | Without sufficient ventilation, wear a dust/mist filtering respirator (MSHA/NIOSH approval prefix TC-21C, or a NIOSH approved respirator with any N, R, P or HE class filter) |
| Ventilation | Use adequate ventilation whenever possible; minimize airborne concentrations |
Keep and wash PPE separately from other laundry. Discard clothing that is drenched or heavily contaminated. Wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco or using the toilet.
