Short answer: To get rid of bed bugs at home, find every hiding spot, strip and wash the bedding in hot water, then spray a residual product such as Bug Off (Rs 1,200 per pack) on mattress seams, bed joints, sofa folds and wall cracks. Repeat once after 7 to 10 days to catch newly hatched nymphs. Heavy or repeat infestations need a professional inspection.

Why It Is Hard to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
Many people try for months to get rid of bed bugs with household sprays and fail. Khatmal do not live in dirt; they live next to people. An adult is flat, reddish brown and about the size of an apple seed, so it slips into the stitching of a mattress, the screw holes of a bed frame or the gap behind a switchboard. Each female lays a few eggs every day, and those eggs are glued into cracks where ordinary aerosol sprays rarely reach.
Most families who say “we sprayed and they came back” missed one of three things: a hiding place that was never treated, the eggs that hatched a week later, or a second piece of furniture such as a sofa, charpai or office chair that was carrying its own population.
Signs You Need to Act Now
The sooner you spot them, the easier it is to get rid of bed bugs. Check for these clues before you buy anything. They tell you how far the problem has spread and which rooms to treat.
- Itchy red bites that appear in a row or small cluster on arms, neck or legs after sleeping.
- Tiny black or rust-coloured dots on sheets, pillow covers and along mattress piping.
- Pale, empty skins and cream-coloured eggs in seams, joints and headboard screw holes.
- A sweetish, musty smell in a closed bedroom with a large population.
- Live insects that crawl out when you lift the mattress edge or shine a torch into wooden joints at night.
If you find signs in only one bed, a careful home treatment usually works. If two or more rooms, a sofa set and a car seat are all involved, plan for professional help as well.
What Is Bug Off?
Bug Off is the bed bug killer sold by Makhdoom Services. It was made to help families get rid of bed bugs without a strong chemical smell. It comes as an odourless powder pack that you dissolve in water and apply with an ordinary spray bottle. Once dry, it leaves a thin residual layer on treated surfaces, so insects that crawl across it later still pick up a dose.

7-Step Usage Guide to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
If you want to get rid of bed bugs in one go, follow these steps in order. Skipping the preparation stage is the main reason home treatments fail.
Step 1: Inspect and mark the hot spots
You cannot get rid of bed bugs you have not found. Use a torch and an old card. Run the card edge along mattress seams, bed corners, the back of the headboard, curtain hems, sofa cushions and wall cracks within two metres of the bed. Mark every place where you see insects, eggs or dark spots.
Step 2: Strip and wash fabrics
Remove sheets, pillow covers, curtains and loose sofa covers. Wash them in the hottest water the fabric allows and dry them in strong sun or a hot dryer. Seal clean items in plastic bags until treatment is finished, so they are not re-infested.
Step 3: Clear clutter and vacuum
Take boxes, clothes and shoes off the floor under the bed. Vacuum seams, joints and carpet edges slowly, then empty the vacuum bag into a sealed bin bag outside the house.
Step 4: Mix the Bug Off solution

Pour 3 litres of clean water into a bucket, add one pack of Bug Off and stir until the powder fully dissolves. Fill a clean hand sprayer that has never held kitchen or garden chemicals. Mix only what you will use in one session.
Step 5: Spray the hiding places
This is the step that does most of the work to get rid of bed bugs. Spray the mattress seams and underside, bed frame joints, headboard, slats, sofa frame and folds, skirting lines and wall cracks. Apply a light, even mist until the surface is damp, not soaking. Work from the far side of the room towards the door.
Step 6: Ventilate and wait 2 hours
Open windows, switch on the fan and keep everyone out of the room for at least 2 hours, or until surfaces are fully dry. Then put fresh bedding on and sleep as normal.
Step 7: Repeat after 7 to 10 days
The second round is what lets you get rid of bed bugs for good. Eggs that were hidden during the first round hatch within about a week. A second application on the same spots 7 to 10 days later stops the new nymphs before they can lay eggs. Keep checking with a torch for two to three weeks.
Where to Spray to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
| Apply here | Do not apply here |
|---|---|
| Mattress seams, piping and underside | Pillows a child sleeps on while still damp |
| Bed frame joints, slats and screw holes | Food, utensils, kitchen counters |
| Sofa frames, folds and under cushions | Toys, baby cots and feeding items |
| Charpai joints and rope gaps | Fish tanks, bird cages, pet bowls |
| Skirting lines, wall cracks, switchboard edges | Open electrical sockets |
Safety Precautions
You can get rid of bed bugs safely if you treat the product with respect. Bug Off is designed for indoor use around beds and sofas, but every insecticide needs care. Follow these rules each time you use it.
- Read the pack instructions before mixing and keep the pack in its original packaging.
- Wear rubber gloves and a simple face mask while mixing and spraying; wash hands and face afterwards.
- Keep children, elderly family members, pets and birds out of the room until surfaces are dry and the room has aired for 2 hours.
- Never spray on food, plates, water containers or kitchen surfaces.
- Do not spray directly onto skin or into eyes. If it splashes, rinse with clean water for several minutes and seek medical advice if irritation continues.
- Store unused powder in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children, away from food and medicines.
- Do not pour leftover solution into drains, water tanks or open land; spray it onto treated areas instead.
When to Call a Professional
Most families can get rid of bed bugs themselves when the problem is caught early. Home treatment works well for an early infestation in one or two beds. Call for a professional inspection when bites continue after two careful rounds, when several rooms or a full sofa set are involved, or when you run a hostel, guest house, hotel or office where people come and go every day.
Our team inspects, treats every hiding place and follows up on hatching eggs. See our bed bug control service in Lahore and our integrated pest management services for commercial sites. The inspection visit charge is Rs 2,000, refunded or adjusted if you book the treatment.
After You Get Rid of Bed Bugs: Stop Them Returning
- Inspect second-hand furniture and mattresses before bringing them indoors.
- After a trip, unpack luggage in a bathroom or on a hard floor and wash clothes straight away.
- Seal cracks in wooden beds and walls near sleeping areas.
- Keep a torch near the bed; spotting one insect early makes it easy to get rid of bed bugs again before they spread.
- Use zippered mattress covers so any survivors are trapped and easy to spot.
- Check beds with a torch once a month for the first three months after treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to get rid of bed bugs with Bug Off?
Bites usually drop over the first few nights after a thorough spray. Because eggs hatch over about a week, plan for two rounds 7 to 10 days apart and keep checking for two to three weeks.
How much Bug Off do I need for one room?
One pack mixed in 3 litres of water is usually enough for one or two beds plus nearby sofa and wall cracks. Larger rooms, extra furniture or several beds may need a second pack.
Can I sleep on the mattress after spraying?
Yes. Keep the room ventilated and wait at least 2 hours, or until the mattress is fully dry, then put on clean bedding and sleep as normal.
Is Bug Off safe around children and pets?
Keep children, pets and birds out of the room while you spray and until surfaces are dry and the room has aired for 2 hours. Never spray on toys, baby cots, food or pet bowls.
Does Bug Off have a smell?
No. Bug Off is an odourless formula, which is why many families prefer it for bedrooms and sofas.
Why do bed bugs come back after spraying?
Usually because one hiding place was missed, eggs hatched after the first round, or a second piece of furniture was carrying insects. A careful second round and treating every bed and sofa in the room solves most cases.
When should I book a professional bed bug treatment?
Book an inspection if bites continue after two careful rounds, if several rooms are affected, or if you run a hostel, hotel or office. The visit charge is Rs 2,000, refunded or adjusted if you book.
